How to Use Amazon for Online Shopping

Amazon is a huge online shopping mall where you can search hundreds of products. You can learn the layout and discover some useful websites that help you navigate Amazon and improve your online shopping experience. You’ll buy products at prices that can’t be found at other stores, and sometimes even at other online stores. Read on to learn how to use Amazon for online shopping.

Instructions

Step 1

Click the “Shop All Departments” button on the top left corner on the Amazon homepage. You’ll see every section of the Amazon store. Below the sections, you will see links to bargain pages and lists you can create and manage to improve your online shopping experience.

Step 2

Choose a section of the store and search for products. You can type specific product names or keywords or you can browse for products. Read the reviews and use the bar graph, at the bottom of the product page, to get a general idea if other shoppers find the product wonderful or horrible.

Step 3

Browse “Bestsellers” and “Hot New Releases” to find out what the most popular products in your favorite section are and discover a product to buy.

Step 4

Check to make sure you can purchase the item from Amazon and add it to your online shopping cart. To bump your total purchase by a few dollars to get to $25 and free shipping, check “SlickDeals” to find useful, cheap items to add to your order.

Step 5

Use Spendfish to search Amazon’s bargain items. This website searches for deals in 12 categories and saves you some time searching Amazon itself.

Step 6

Create wish lists to help friends and family members shop for you at Amazon. You can have a general wish list for any occasion or a specific list for a wedding or baby shower.

Step 7

Add a recipient under “Your List,” “Gift Organizer” and “Add a New Recipient.” Create a list for a friend or family member so that Amazon can recommend gifts you for you to buy that person based on your past purchases.

Tips & Warnings

Individuals and companies sell new and used items through the Amazon Marketplace. It’s a great way to get an even bigger discount on an item you want to buy. Be aware that you won’t receive free shipping on any size Amazon Marketplace purchase.
If within 30 days of purchase you notice a lower price at a competing website, contact Amazon for a price match.
The “Movies & TV” store allows you to select unreleased items and receive an alert by email when the item becomes available. On the “Movies & TV” homepage, look at the top right side of the screen for the “First to Know” tab.
